Rawlemon – a new way to exploit the solar energy

The total solar energy absorbed by Earth’s atmosphere, oceans and land masses in one hour, will give the same quantity energy that the whole world is using in one year! The sun is the greatest sustainable energy source available to us on earth, a fact which we already know about but still explore how we should use and exploit. One major problem with todays PhotoVoltaic panels worldwide is the low efficiency for the solar energy, where about 15-20 % of the solar energy is extracted from the solar radiation. This is even lower during the year.

Andre Broessel, a German architect living in Barcelona, is leading a revolutionary project called Rawlemon, where he and his scientific team is trying to show a new way to “squeeze more juice out of the sun”. Rawlemon combines a spherical geometry principals with a dual axis tracking system and can reach up to 70% yield surplus compared to a conventional PV panel. The construction is a vertical set-up which also means a reduction of the cellsurface to 1 %.

Rawlemons spherical design makes it able to concentrate diffuse light, meaning that it will have the possibility to produce solar energy where conventional systems fail. This offers an unprecedented opportunity to extract solar energy in places where the effective insolation varies throughout the year.

With the help of this new technique we will be able to produce sustainable and low cost energy. Solar energy can become accessible to more people around the world. From this point of view, Andre Broessel´s project Rawlemon is a very important environmental project that will help the humanity to use the earths resources in a better and sustainable way.

Anyone who is interested in helping Andre Broessel and his team to succeed with the project Rawlemon, can do this by funding money on his project Rawlemon. You can support the project until the 8th of february 2014.

Their goal is to raise US$ 120 000 and they have now reached approx. US$ 7 300, with 27 days to go! Out of my point of view, this is absolutely worth supporting, so anyone who has the possibility to do this  go ahead and do it!
